Kodumon is historically significant as the birthplace of Sakthibhadra, the renowned Sanskrit scholar and playwright who authored the classical drama Aascharyachoodamani. He established the Chenneerkara Swarupam, with Kodumon as its capital. The name "Kodumon" literally means "Land of Gold," reflecting the region's rich historical and cultural heritage.

Prior to the establishment of the elected Panchayat administration in 1951, the area was governed by a Village Union appointed by the Government. Following the formation of the Panchayat, Shri K. N. Gopalapillai became its first elected President.

Kodumon has witnessed remarkable progress in various sectors, including education, public health, housing, transportation, and infrastructure, contributing significantly to the overall development of the region.

The Panchayat is blessed with a diverse landscape of hills, valleys, and gently undulating terrain. The land slopes gradually from east to west and from south to north. Numerous streams and rivulets flow through the Panchayat before joining the Achankovil River. The scattered hillocks across the region add to its scenic beauty and unique geographical character.

The Nedumonkavu area is known for the occurrence of valuable mineral resources such as mica and cat's eye (chrysoberyl). Kodumon enjoys a moderate tropical climate with neither extreme heat nor severe cold, making it favourable for agriculture and comfortable living.

The Panchayat consists of 11 wards and is home to more than thirty sacred groves (Kavus), which reflect its rich ecological and cultural traditions.

Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people, and Kodumon continues to be predominantly an agrarian region with farming playing a vital role in its economy and livelihood.
